UD Marbella sign ex Premier League player

The signing was finalised shortly before the close of the Spanish transfer window at midnight on the 30/01/08.

Carl Cort began his career with Wimbledon as a teenager. He went on loan to Lincoln, and when he came back to the Dons, he scored in the first minute of his full debut against Newcastle United in September 1997.

A place in the England under-21s soon followed. Naturally fast as well as tall, Newcastle boss Bobby Robson paid £7million for Cort in the summer of 2000. He is one of three English players who have made a £7 million transfer and never played for England, the others being Dean Richards and Kevin Davies.

He moved to Woverhampton Wandrers for £2 million during January 2004 and scored 5 goals for his new club that season. In the 2004-05 season, his form improved and he scored 16 goals in 40 appearances. Cort began the 2005-06 season well, but injury interrupted this though by the end of May he had scored 11 goals in 24 appearances.

In June 2007 he signed for Leicester City scoring his last goal in a memoral match on the 31st of October against Chelsea at Stamford Bridge in the Carling Cup a match that Leicester lost 4 - 3. That goal was voted the Leicester City goal of the month for October.

Another signing that was completed with minutes to go was that of Valentín Gino Nicola Goffin, a 22 year old Belgian that comes via Benidorm who play in second division B group 3.

That closed a busy transfer window that saw Marbella bring in 6 players namely Quini, Jabuti, Juan Rios, Chus López, Carl Cort and Valentín.
