Sunday 13th January – Marbella beat Betis “B” 2-1

The new management and the new centre-forward recruits are starting to pay dividends and the Marbella Football Club is beginning to be noticed.

The Players: Ávila, Ibón Díez, Nando, David Mata, Carlos Arias, Lolo (Carlos Rivera), Ricardo, Vergara (Jabuti), Dani, Christian y Quini (Sosa).

UD Marbella continued their impressive start to the New Year making it 3 wins out of 3, this time a very entertaining game against a strong Real Betis ‘B’ team, and  Marbella got their revenge after losing 2 – 0 in the reverse fixture.

Marbella started strongly from the off, and looked to adjust to the artificial turf much better than their counterparts. In the 29th minute Quini got the ball turned and shot in one movement stretching the Betis keeper who just managed to get a hand on the ball. A few moments later Dani found himself in front of goal without the keeper but with several big defenders who managed to block his goal bound shot. Betis rarely troubled Avila in the Marbella goal although Rodri was quite lively but didn’t have the support from his team mates.

Marbella again started the second half strongly and in a confident mood. In the 48th minute a rare Betis attack across from the left ended in Avila’s hands, he saw Quini high up the field an launched the ball in his direction, Quini controlled the ball well turned his marker a hit a long shot range shot that looped over the keeper and into the top right hand corner of the net 1 – 0 to Marbella.

After 60 minutes Oli decided to change things round slightly and brought on Carlos Rivera and Jabuti, this immediately paid dividends with the 2 substitutes linking up well ending with Jabuti putting the ball just wide. Carlos Rivera was now pulling the strings in midfield picking out his forward with some consistency.

It was only going to be a matter of time before Marbella scored the second goal of the match and it came in the 81st minute. A strong challenge from Jabuti saw him take the ball from the Betis defender, he ran down the line a put in an inch perfect pass to Sosa who just had to roll the ball in to he open net.

Betis scored a consolation goal in the 90th minute but they found Marbella on top of their game in what was a fairly one sided match
