Doncaster set for redevelopment:
Doncaster racecourse will close for redevelopment until 2007 after the Xmas National Hunt meeting.
Development will begin in January and the course will reopen in August 2007.
The St Leger, one of the year’s four classics, will be held in York in 2006 before returning to Doncaster in September 2007. The first phase of the redevelopment will be the demolition and rebuilding of the Yorkshire Stand and the erection of a new stable complex.
A hotel and a new Doncaster bloodstock sales facility are also planned over the next two years.

French Rugby legend Fouroux dies:
Former French coach and Captain Jacques Fouroux has died at his home in southwestern Auch, aged 58.
Fouroux won 28 caps for France between 1972-1977 and captaining the side in their Grand-Slam winning year of 1977.He took over as coach of the national side in 1981 through to 1990, guiding them to the final of the inaugural world cup in 1987.
“We have lost a gentleman of Rugby, a great player, a unique competitor” said French team manager Jo Maso.

Knee problem for Ashley Brook:
Ashley Brook could head into the 2006 Cheltenham festival without a build up run after suffering a knee injury.
The gelding, second to Kauto Star in the William Hill Tingle Creek Trophy, at Sandown Park in December, has an off-fore knee problem. Ashley Brook is currently rated at 7-1 for the two mile race, won last year by Moscow Flyer.

Lockett-Rhodes set for March date:
Gary Lockett’s fight with Ryan Rhodes for the vacant WBU middleweight title is expected to be on the 11th of March in Newport leisure centre.
“That’ll be fantastic for me if it comes off” Cwmbran 29 years old Lockett told the South Wales Echo.
The under card could feature an eagerly awaited welterweight rematch between Tony Doherty and Taz Jones.
Hammers paid extra Ridgewell cash:
West Ham has been given 350.000 pounds by Aston Villa after Liam Ridgewell made his 50th appearance for the midlands club since his transfer in 2001.
When the then 16 year old defender made the switch, a football league tribunal ruled 50.000 pounds was payable initially. West Ham would also be entitled to 15% of any transfer fee should Ridgewell ever leave Villa. Ridgewell was part of Villa’s FA youth cup winning side and had a loan spell at Bournemouth before being eased into the first team picture.
Alonso will join Mc Laren in 2007
World champion Fernando Alonso will join Mc Laren from Renault.
The Spaniard is contracted to Renault for the next season, but his move will oust either Kimi Raikkonen or Juan Pablo Montoya at Mc Laren. The move comes just days after Mc Laren signed a lucrative sponsorship deal with Vodafone.
