Whirlow Hall Farm Trust
Head in the clouds or feet on the ground -
Whirlow Hall Farm Trust has something to satisfy all adventurous appetites!
Last year over 100 Sheffield businessmen and women raised a tremendous £30,000 for Whirlow's work with inner city children. Whirlow's Fundraising Manager, Jayne Brooke, took part last year (her first ever 10K Run), and she will be encouraging people to stop being couch potatoes and have some fun helping the children of Sheffield.
The 10K route - which is flat - takes in the historic heart of London and entrants run down Piccadilly, pass Trafalgar Square, The Houses of Parliament and St Paul's Cathedral and finish by The Cenotaph in Whitehall. Jayne says that many of the people taking part to raise money have never run before, or use the race as an excuse to get fit and lose some of the Christmas excesses. Last years 10K Run coincided with the hottest day of the year, which proved to be an additional handicap to Sheffield's Master and Mistress Cutler - who ran the race 3 legged!
Jayne has all the information and free entry tickets plus bargain hotel and train rates during the race weekend - and you can contact her at Whirlow on (0114) 2352678. Whirlow's intrepid Chief Executive, David Heugh, is looking at more distant and higher horizons. Last year, David took a group of 10 Sheffield businessmen walking on The Great Wall of China for 7 days. The group, which raised £8,000, spent 5 hours a day trekking with guides on awe inspiring and isolated stretches of The Great Wall away from Beijing. This year, David will be going west to trek and explore another man made wonder in Peru.
After being 'lost' for hundreds of years, the legendary city of Machu Picchu was rediscovered in 1911 and is now one of the great historic sites of the world. David says that all 'The China Boys' have signed up for this year's trek which will take place from October 15th to 24th and he is looking for an additional 6 people. He says the trips are meant to be fun and enjoyable with a reasonable fitness level as a basic requirement for those taking part. The cost of the all inclusive, fully guided, once in a lifetime trip is £2,000 - which includes a donation to Whirlow Hall Farm Trust. David will be happy to answer any queries if you call him at Whirlow on (0114) 2352678. The popular children's charity, which plays host to over 10,000 children per year, has over 200 free places for The London 10K Run on Sunday 1st August 2004. Now in its fourth year, over 15,000 people are expected to take part and raise funds for charity.
