I am a famous American pop singer and entertainer who has sold millions of records around the world. My life is closely scrutinized by the celebrity gossip media and I have been involved in numerous scandals, controversies and break downs.
I was born in Mississippi and was raised in Kentwood, Louisiana. I first came to fame as a member of the Disney Channel’s New Mickey Mouse Club in the 1993 and 1994 seasons. My cast mates on the show included Christina Aguilera, also a pop singer. I broke the record for the youngest artist, at age 17, to have their first single debut at Nº1 on the “Billboard Hot 100” chart.
Following the enormous success of my first two albums, my career skyrocketed, and a multimillion-dollar music, film, advertisement, concert and TV-special “industry” sprang up around me. My most popular ads were for Pepsi.
In 2002, I starred in a movie, but although it reached Nº2 in the box office charts, my own performance was poorly received by critics and was given a Razzie Award for worst performance of 2002. I then took a break from the spotlight, and in 2003 many music industry critics speculated that my career was in decline. I was married for 55 hours to my childhood friend; we both consented to the immediate annulment shortly after the ceremony. On September 18, 2004, I remarried before 20-30 guests in a private non-denominational ceremony at a residence in Studio City, California and had two children.
Millions of prepubescent girls and boys became enthusiasts for my work, adopting me as an idol, however writers on popular music for the mainstream press have generally been dismissive of my music, considering it to be commercial and shallow. Even the parents of young daughters have negative feelings towards me. To many critics, I have combined a very “sexy” public image with a major marketing “play” for the hearts, minds and pockets of prepubescent girls, often as young as seven or eight.
One particular First Lady was criticized for saying that she would like to “shoot me”. WHO AM I?
