I was born in Mayfair, London in May 1908. I was educated at Sunningdale School in Berkshire, Eton College and the Royal Military Academy Sandhurst. I was “Victor Ludorum” at Eton two years running, something that had been achieved only once before me. My marriage in Jamaica in 1952 was witnessed by my friend, playwright Noel Coward. During WWII I was a reserve subaltern in the Black Watch.
My military career, particularly in intelligence, helped me in later life to become a most famous writer and may of my novels have been made into films with enormous success. In 1961, a heavy smoker and heavy drinker, I suffered a heart attack. I died of a heart attack on August 12, 1964 in Canterbury, England aged 56. Who am I?
