I was born in Wisconsin on the 6th May 1915. I am described as an iconic Academy winning American director, writer, actor and producer for film, stage, radio and TV, with a larger than life personality. It would seem that appreciation for my work has increased after my death and I am now widely recognized as one of the most important dramatic artists of the 20th century. My first impact for notoriety took place after a radio broadcast in 1938. I have written, produced, directed and acted in what is described by critics as the greatest film ever made. Regrettably I did not have sufficient funds or luck to produce more such films. I was also an accomplished magician, starring in troop variety spectacles in the war years. I loved Spain which I visited often and where I continued shooting Don Quixote and replaced Mischa Auer with Francisco Reiguera. I died in California on the 10th October 1985. Who am I?
