On its 10th anniversary, Mayfair Academy with luxury premises set on some 4000m2 of mature gardens now has a lot more to offer.

The new Mayfair International Academy has indoor and outdoor swimming pools, a fully equipped fitness centre, a separate play area for younger students, a well equipped and maintained computer suite with state of the art technology and comfortable, air-conditioned classrooms for students aged 4 to 18.

The new premises also mean that other, welcome activities can also be introduced. This autumn, Mayfair International Academy will be playing host to the Stagecoach School for Performing Arts, offering classes every Saturday at the new Academy in Atalaya Park. The weekly training is for a three hour period for 6 to 16 years old and 1½ hours for 4 – 6 years old, during which time the students attend classes in dance, drama and singing. The school year is divided into three terms running concurrently with the normal academic year. Mirroring the ethos of Mayfair Academy, class sizes are restricted to fifteen students per class. The class work covers many recognized board requirements and students may be entered for Trinity College London group examinations in musical theatre.

Other extra curricular classes which will be on offer to Mayfair Academy students, this autumn, will include Fencing, a traditional and historic sport that contains the skills of martial arts, the elegance of ballet, intelligence of chess and the philosophy of the old knights. Alberto Cerrada, a Fencing Master, will be offering Mayfair Students the opportunity to practice the art of Fencing. Alberto is a sport and theatre fencing master, Spanish sword champion and master of fencing for Vigo Mortensen and Antonio Banderas.

The essence of the art of fencing is the traditional values such as respect for the opposition and the rules and good behaviour. Students will develop tactical and intellectual skills, logical thinking and self respect. The absence of body contact makes fencing a very safe sport with no major risks and it can be enjoyed by both Primary and Secondary pupils alike.

Another new class starting this September will be music lessons with Miss Anna, a fully qualified piano teacher, who will be offering after school classes for individuals or small groups or private lessons to suit the individual and also Saturday music classes.

Other extra curricular activities have yet to be confirmed, however, the ever popular Gym Club will probably be heavily subscribed, self defence classes will most likely be on offer and the Primary department has plans to include an after school Gardening Club.

For parents who are finding it difficult to collect their children at 3.30pm, Mayfair is now offering an after school service until 5.30pm. Children will enjoy various activities spread over the two hours which may include art, homework, library, video club, etc.

Of course, students at Mayfair International Academy already benefit from the choice of two curricula from the end of year 9. The standard curriculum, which is offered in other International schools on the coast and the Sports Curriculum which is a specially designed curriculum combining NVQ and IGCSE qualifications.
