I was born in Canning Town, Essex on 11th July 1916 and was an English TV and film actor who started in a popular British 1970s sitcom. I was one of five children and after leaving school at 14, I worked as a messenger boy and a page boy at the Regents Park Hotel. As a child I got work as a part time piano player. Later I sang with Big Bands of the time. During World War II, I continued performing as an army entertainer. After being demobbed, I starred on stage in the late 40s in a comic revue and my stooge in the act was Benny Hill. In 1961 I got the role as a foreman in a TV series called the Rag Trade. I was also in the remake of The Plank. In 1990 I was forced to retire due to health problems.
