Introduction
The weather has not been very kind so far this year, nevertheless life does go on and the hot weather will no doubt be soon upon us, suddenly, when we least expect it. This is why on this occasion we decided to visit and report on this “chiringuito” because it really deserves to be known now, at the start of the summer season. It is tucked away on the beach at the rear of the AGH Hotel, with a wide open view to the Mediterranean, North Africa and Gibraltar.

Atmosphere
Perfectly positioned on the beach, the inside of the chiringuito is well laid out with dining tables and chairs that complement a “tropical” atmosphere. The outside is also well furnished with more dining space and all types of beach equipment, including chill out beds, sun beds and parasols.
Whether you are looking for a good meal by the sea or a relaxing day on a sun bed with massage or a good tropical evening experience with the right kind of live music, there is no doubt that “Paraiso del Mar” can provide all of this and at a fairly reasonable cost. As the only view is the open sea, it is very easy to forget where one really is.

The Menu
The menu is very comprehensive, ranging from salads to sea food, meats, fish, pastas and desserts. It is really very impressive and very tempting, even the simple home-made hamburger is appetising enough but perhaps not as much as sardines grilled on the open fire on the beach. Although €20/25 would have made a fantastic meal including drinks, on this occasion we were offered a wide selection of different plates just for us to try and see what the food was like overall. For the little it cost us, the variety and the quantity was far in excess than what we expected, and… it was very good.

Wine List
The wine list may not be very extensive but the selection of Spanish wines is good. White, red or rosé I found that the house wine was quite good anyway. On the other hand, the Tropical Cocktails certainly complemented the moon, this was just what you would expect to find. Margaritas, Piña Coladas, Mojitos among others and even the Paraiso del Mar specials presented some very tempting options.

The Staff
We found the staff most welcoming and certainly willing to help; casual of course, as you would expect, and blending in with the mood of the locale. It does not take long for one to feel as part of the whole set up.

Starters
As starters we were presented with a large platter of different fruits cut to form an appetising presentation as an introduction to a selection of about 6 different types of salads that followed, each based on a different flavour, like prawns, ham, tuna, and tomato. A light and very refreshing start to a delightful meal.
Team score – 10/10

Second and even third Courses
The variety of dishes presented was so extensive that itÂ’s very difficult to decide what to describe first.

Sea Food
Steamed Mussels in special house sauce. Clams in the special house sauce. Grilled Pawns. They were clearly very fresh and very, very tasty. They could all have been a good starter or even a good first course and, I dare say, a meal.
Team score – 10/10

Fish
Fried white bait, grilled sword fish steak, “Dorada” (John Dory) grilled, all accompanied by French fries. Superb!
Team score – 10/10

Meat
Stewed lamb chops and grilled chicken fillets in a brown sauce. The lamb chops were particularly nice and I recommend them if you are not too keen on fish.
Team score – 10/10

Pastas
The pasta section was represented by Linguini a la Marinera. A very rich plate of pasta comprising prawns, mussels, clams and a little chorizo. Delicious!
Team Score 10/10

Desserts
On this occasion the postre de la casa was a large fruit salad
Team Score 8/10

Summary
Although some of the expected diners were put off by the not so pleasant weather on that day, nevertheless all who came have had a good time and have stated that they will most certainly come back again. The breath-taking view, the food, the music, the ambience make the “Paraiso del Mar” a most pleasant experience but most of all an affordable experience, meaning that one can easily make this a regular place to go to in summer at any time of day. It is an ideal location to take your friends and visitors and impress them. At times entertainment can involve the diners, such as the drum playing sessions or the karaoke. A lounge is available for group parties.
